The City of Lincoln is a friendly, rural community with a population of 33,000. The City of Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department offers many activities that are close to home. Lincoln Parks & Rec. maintains aquatic facilities for swimming lessons and an intra-mural swim team. A range of adult classes and teams are available, including golf, basketball, softball, volleyball, football and tennis. Youth and teen classes and camps are fun and educational. The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department maintains high quality facilities, rich programs and a great sense of community. Special Attractions/Events Each year since 2002 the Lincoln Volunteer Center sponsers an annual Tour de Lincoln. The Tour is a benefit bike ride for the Volunteer Center that features a wonderful day of spring riding through the scenic back roads of Lincoln. Each Saturday during the growing season, Lincoln hosts one of the best Farmer’s Market’s in the region. Delicious produce picked locally that morning is sold in historic Downtown. Other neighborhood events include golf tournaments, artist studio tours, arts and crafts festivals, holiday parades, wine tasting and BBQ’s. The City of Lincoln is a close-knit community that can always find a reason to come together and have a good time! The region supports several major yearly agricultural festivals including the Roseville Strawberry Festival, the Loomis Eggplant Festival, the Mountain Mandarin Festival at the Gold Country Fairgrounds, The Auburn Harvest Festival in Auburn, Auburn’s Wine Festival, and the Placer Farm & Barn Festival. Interesting Facts/Historic Buildings and Places Within a few years, the railroad line was estended to Wheatland, in Yuba County, and the first boom in Lincoln’s history came to an end. Most of its population and business moved on with the railroad, and the town settled into a lull until the 1870s. Civil War veterans found their way to Lincoln and planted orchards and grazed cattle on the hills near the fledgling town. Then, in 1875 a great discovery of rich clay deposits was made near Lincoln. The clay proved to be of superior quality for firing and molding into clay pipes. This led to the establishment of Gladding, McBean & Co.
