Interesting Facts/Historic Buildings and Places
The original townsite of Lincoln was surveyed and laid out in 1859 by Theodore D. Judah. He designed the new town along the proposed line of the California Central Railroad. The name "Lincoln" was chosen to honor Charles Lincoln Wilson, who was one of the directors of the California Central Railroad. The CCRR was planned as a rail link between the cities of Marysville and Sacramento via a connection to the Sacramento Valley Railroad in Folsom. The rails reached the site of Lincoln in early 1861. At this point, however, due to a lack of funds completion of the California Central was temporarily halted. For a time, Lincoln was the northern terminus of this new road. During that time, the town experienced a small-scale boom. Business, trade and homesteads established themselves in Lincoln. At the original auction, 46 lots were bought, and these new landowners would build the foundation for the City of Lincoln.

Within a few years, the railroad line was estended to Wheatland, in Yuba County, and the first boom in Lincoln’s history came to an end. Most of its population and business moved on with the railroad, and the town settled into a lull until the 1870s. Civil War veterans found their way to Lincoln and planted orchards and grazed cattle on the hills near the fledgling town.

Then, in 1875 a great discovery of rich clay deposits was made near Lincoln. The clay proved to be of superior quality for firing and molding into clay pipes. This led to the establishment of Gladding, McBean & Co. Lincoln became known for its pottery, ushering in a new era of prosperity and growth. The Company’s whistle has blown every moring at 6am for over a century!

Real Estate Tips
First Time Buyers >A Good Start

When a real estate agent begins to work with a new buyer, we will sit down with you, ask a number of questions, and listen carefully to your answers. Our purpose during this initial interview is to get a clear idea of what kind of property you are looking for and your approximate price range. We explain how we will function as your representative, what the local market is like, and what we can do to help you locate that perfect home.

It is important for you as a prospective buyer to be as clear as possible about your needs. After we have talked and you have decided how much you can comfortably spend, we will know how to facilitate your home search. We won't take you through a three-story colonial with a top floor master suite if you want to avoid climbing up and down stairs! Establishing clear communication with our clients helps us save you hours of unfocused house hunting.
